Development and function of the vertebrate visual systemSpecialty areas
DevelopmentScientific biography
Retinal ganglion cells form complex and specialized circuits with their target cells in visual processing areas, such as the zebrafish optic tectum, to ensure the proper functioning of the visual system. Elena’s PhD project focuses on understanding the molecular control underlying the development of these circuits in the zebrafish visual system. In parallel, she is also investigating the genetic identity and the connectivity of a novel population of commissural neurons in the zebrafish visual system, essential for the processing of binocular cues.
